DR SUDHA CUGATI is an Ophthalmologist based in South Australia. She is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with expertise in Cataract surgery and medical retina including age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy. She is committed to providing high level personalised patient care based on the latest available evidence.
Sudha underwent basic medical and specialist training in India. She underwent PhD in Ophthalmic Epidemiology from University of Sydney. She later underwent Fellowship in Ophthalmology in Adelaide, SA.
Dr Sudha Cugati’s PhD involved the 10-year incidence of retinal diseases in the Blue Mountain Eye Study. She has been involved in the design of the Prospective Study of Cataract Surgery and Macular Degeneration Study. She has over 35 publications in peer reviewed journals. She has a keen interest in teaching and is involved in teaching the medical students and registrars.
Sudha is involved in voluntary services. She visited Loknayak Jaiprakash Eye Hospital, Bahera (Chouparan), Hazaribag (https://nbjk.org/news/australian-retina-specialist-at-lnjp-eye-hospital-4/) where she was involved in providing out patient services and cataract surgery. She is also committed to providing expert eye care services to the Indigenous Australian pensioners.
Sudha Cugati is the Head of the Unit, Ophthalmology in Northern Adelaide Local Health Network. She is based at the Modbury Hospital. She is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences in Adelaide Medical School. She is a consultant Ophthalmologist at the Northern Eye Specialists, 43 John Rice Avenue, Elizabeth Vale 5112.
In addition to English, Sudha speaks in Hindi, Telugu and Kannada
Sudha received the Australian Postgraduate Award and Westmead Top up Grant (Westmead Mellinium Institute). She also received the Westmead Mellinium Institute Travel Grant.
In her free time, Sudha enjoys hiking the Heysen trail. Her favourite hike was her trip to the Machu Picchu in 2018 and Everest Base Camp in 2024. She is a passionate cook.
